The August Frolic was all to play for as the sailors entered the final day in the Series on Sunday August 27th. Unfortunately, the two leaders in the Series were unavailable to sail on the final day so it was up to the other contenders to try and overhaul their points score and win the Series.
Race officers, Jerôme Dreux, Sam Ivers and Valère Dreux set a course in fairly light westerly winds. Six sailors took the start of the first race with Clive Evison (P 1355) taking the race lead early on ahead of Andrew Boxer (OK 204), Mary Webb (LN 178), Christine Roy (LN 403), Andrew Yuille (LN 446) starting late and Nigel Webb (LN 372). Clive had a minutes lead at the end of the first lap which he extended to three minutes by the end of the second and he continued to pull away throughout the race. Andrew Boxer maintained his second place with a very healthy gap to third placed Mary, whilst Andrew passed Christine on the second lap and chased after Mary. Nigel retired from the race at the end of the third lap and was joined by Clive on the penultimate lap, leaving Andrew to finish a clear winner ahead of Mary second, Andrew Yuille third and Christine fourth.
Clive and Nigel sat out the second race leaving four to start. This race was a close battle and Andrew Yuille led Andrew Boxer at the end of the first lap with Mary just behind in third and Christine a close fourth. Andrew Yuille pulled out a good lead during the second lap with the positions maintained behind. Mary closed the gap to Andrew and they crossed the line together at the end of the fourth and penultimate lap. Andrew Yuille won the race with a three minute lead, behind Mary moved into second and held it to the race finish with Andrew Boxer finishing just five seconds back and Christine came home fourth.
Clive reappeared for the afternoon race as Peter Withrington (LN 442) and Tricia Evison (LN 412) joined the fleet, so six started the third race as Christine decided to sit out the afternoon. The start was close and at the end of the lap, Andrew Boxer led by ten seconds over Peter, Andrew Yuille third, Clive fourth, Mary fifth and Tricia sixth. Mary retired on the second lap as Andrew maintained his lead but with Clive quickly closing in to cross the line just behind, Andrew Yuille third, Peter fourth and Tricia fifth. Clive took the lead starting the third lap and pulled away as the positions behind were maintained. The two lead Lightnings had an excellent fifth lap and Peter moved into second with Andrew Yuille third and Andrew Boxer dropping to fourth as they started the final lap. It changed again on the final lap and Clive won the race, Andrew Boxer recovered back to second place, Andrew Yuille moved into third, Peter fourth and Tricia fifth.
Tricia and Mary sat out the final race, so four started. The two Andrews battled for the lead with Andrew Yuille leading at the end of the first lap, but Andrew Boxer passed on the second lap. Clive made his customary slow start, passing both and moving into the lead on the second lap. Andrew Yuille moved back into second on the third lap with Andrew Boxer dropping some distance back. The positions were maintained for the rest of the race as Andrew Boxer chased after Andrew Yuille, but not managing to catch. Clive won the race, Andrew Yuille second, Andrew Boxer third and Peter fourth.
Gary Adshead (OK 1998) maintained his lead in the Series finishing on the same points as James Long (OK 2130), but winning the series due to better discarded points. Andrew Boxer moved into third place in the Series on the final day.
