Jerome Dreux wins Wallace Trophy

Jerome Dreux (OK 2007) has won the 2023 Wallace Trophy after winning two races in challenging conditions. The light winds from the northeast gusting round to both easterlies and northerlies caught many sailors out and caused some difficultly with mooring at the club jetty.

Seven boats raced across the four races on Sunday May 28th with many club members away at the start of school half-term. Five started the first race with Mary Webb (LN 178) taking a good win ahead of Jerome on both the water and handicap in the first race with Duncan Watts (LN 431) third, Christine Roy (LN 403) fourth in her first full race for a year and Nigel Webb (LN 372) fifth after retiring on the second of four laps.

In the second race, Jerome took an early lead and pulled away from the rest of the fleet to win by over three minutes ahead of Mary second, Duncan third, Peter Withrington (LN 442) back on the water for the first time since the 2022 Lightning 368 Open in fourth and Christine fifth.

After lunch, Jerome took another convincing win by five minutes ahead of Duncan second, Mary third, Peter Withrington fourth and Peter and Sally Wyatt (E 22828) fifth.

Peter Wyatt got into his stride for the final race of the day and race Jerome for most of the race winning by the tiniest of margins with Duncan third and Peter Withrington fourth.

The final positions in the trophy in reverse order were Duncan third, Mary second and Jerome first. Congratulations to Jerome on winning the 2023 Wallace Trophy.
