Spring Series completed

The Spring Series was keenly contested this year with both Handicap and Lightning classes undecided until the last round.

Lightning Spring Series

Twelve competitors took part in the Lightning class this year with Clive Evison taking an early lead with four wins on the trot at the first round of the series and second places were closely contested with Tricia Evison, Christine Roy taking one each and Josh Lindley finishing second in both afternoon races.

At the second Sunday Josh Lindley and Tricia Evison took two wins each, with seconds from Carole Dixon (two) and Tricia Evison and Leo Salem.

Windy conditions in the third race of the series meant only two races were contested with Martin Evans winning both ahead of Clive Evison.

The penultimate round of the series was contested by Carole Dixon, Susan Kronfli and Kevin Singleton with Kevin taking both morning races followed by Carole and Susan and Carole took both afternoon races ahead of Susan. Places were up for grabs at the last round of the series with Clive Evison, Carole Dixon, Tricia Evison, Christine Roy and Susan Kronfli all separated by 11 points.

Only two races were raced on the last Sunday of the series with Mary and Nigel Webb sharing a win apiece and a second place each. Carole Dixon and Christine Roy took a third each.

Handicap Spring Series

There was a good turnout for the Handicap class in the Spring series with twelve competitors racing OKs, Enterprises, Lasers, Solos and a Merlin Rocket. Andrew Boxer, returning from his recent trip to New Zealand where he contested the OK World Championships took four wins at the first round ahead of Jerome Dreux (OK – two seconds, two thirds) and Nick Reuter (Laser – two seconds, two thirds).

At the second round Andrew and Jerome took a win and second each in the morning races, then Clive Evison (Solo) won both afternoon races ahead of Peter Wyatt (Enterprise).

Ian Sutton (Merlin Rocket) won both morning races and Peter Wyatt both afternoon races at the third round. Only two races were contested at the fourth round with Andrew Boxer winning both.

The penultimate round saw Richard Cartwright (Enterprise) take four dominant wins in light winds ahead of Jerome Dreux (three seconds, one third) and Andrew Boxer (one second, three thirds).

Going into the final round Andrew led from Jerome and had enough points to hold off Jerome who won both morning races ahead of Tanja van Wyngaardt (Enterprise) with Nick Reuter winning both afternoon races ahead of Tanja.
