Racing – Cup Races

The club holds lots of single event races throughout the year for different classes of dinghy, abilities and ages. All these events are open to club members with some events such as the Lightning Open being open to visiting sailors too.

Open and Cup races at keenly contested, this is the 2019 Lightning Open.

Single Day Events

Champagne Race

Single handicap race of 60 minutes for all classes. Open to all club helms. Minimum 2 boats to qualify.

OK Championship

3 races sailed as part of the appropriate series and so qualify for series points too. Open to all club OK helms. Minimum 2 boats to qualify.

Club Championship (Wallace Trophy)

3 handicap races sailed as part of the appropriate series and so qualify for series points too. Open to all club helms. Minimum 2 boats to qualify.

Lightning Coronation Trophy

3 races held during the day, all races also qualify for series points. Open to all club Lightning helms. Minimum 2 boats to qualify.

Handicap Coronation Trophy

3 handicap races held during the day, all races also qualify for series points. Open to all club helms. Minimum 2 boats to qualify.

Lightning Open (Derek Bayley Trophy)

3 races held during the day, open to Lightning helms. Minimum 2 boats to qualify.

Ladies Trophy

2 handicap races for all classes. Any club female helm over 18 years of age, male helms or crew are not permitted.

Harbour Cup

2 handicap races for all classes. Open to any club helm who has never previously won a Harbour Cup and who has never been awarded a first prize in any series at any club.

Enterprise Championship

3 races sailed as part of the handicap Autumn Series and so qualify for series points too. Open to all club Enterprise helms. Minimum 2 boats.

Under-21 Trophy

2 handicap races for all classes sailed back to back. Open to all club helms under 21 years old on the day of the event. Crews may be of any age but will not qualify for prizes if 21 or over.

Masters (Veterans) Trophy

2 handicap races for all classes sailed back to back. Open to all club helms aged 55 years or over on the day of the event. Crews may be of any age, but those under 55 do not qualify for prizes. Prizes awarded to Masters helm (55-64), Grand-Masters helm (65-69), Great-Grand-Masters helm (70+).

Nat Phillips Trophy

3 pursuit races for all classes. Open to all club helms. Races also qualify for appropriate series points. Race 1 is 75 minutes duration, race 2 60 minutes duration and race 3 50 minutes duration.
