After racing 20 races over six weeks, Gareth Jones has won the first ever virtual racing series held by Cookham Reach Sailing Club. The races run on Virtual Regatta In-Shore were raced at locations all over the virtual world from Rio to Cowes and in a variety of sailing boats including dinghies, yachts and catamarans.
Gareth came first with 200 points from James Long on 195pts and Andrew Boxer on 194pts, the racing was close and competitive and everyone competing thoroughly enjoyed their racing. Club members really enjoyed getting together virtually a couple of times a week to practice their sailing skills and compete against each other. Alongside the racing, competitors provide plenty of banter on club WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger groups so the online racing is a chance for members to continue to meet up, something that is a key part of club membership and sorely missed during lockdown.
The racing now continues into the Summer Series and members of the club and any family member can join in, all you need is a computer, tablet or smartphone to race online.
